FAQ

  • How much does the course cost?

The course costs £5 per lesson, with payment spread across nine monthly instalments of £20 using GoCardless.

This payment plan covers the full school year, making it easy to budget while securing your child's place on the course.

  • Who is this course suitable for?

This course is recommended for students aged 15 and over.

The recommended age is due to the use of a craft knife during the projects to cut masking tape and create clean silhouettes.

Younger students are welcome to join at their parents' discretion, but we strongly recommend that an adult carries out all craft knife cutting and supervises the lesson throughout.

  • How long is the course?

The course runs throughout the school year and is divided into three terms, with 12 lessons in each term (36 lessons in total).

  • When does the course start?

This begins in September, with students joining at the start of the school year.

  • How long is each lesson?

Each lesson lasts approximately one hour, including a short theory lesson followed by the practical activity.

  • Are the lessons live?

Yes. Melanie hosts each lesson live on Zoom, where she streams her pre-recorded theory and practical lesson. Throughout the session, she guides students step-by-step, answers questions, and provides support as they complete their artwork. This gives students the benefit of learning at a steady pace while still enjoying the interaction and encouragement of a live class.

  • What if we can't attend the live lesson?

No problem! All lessons are available on the members' area of the website for the entire school year, so students can catch up whenever it suits them.

  • When are new lessons worksheets released?

New worksheets and lesson resources are released every Sunday, giving students time to prepare before the week's lesson.

  • How do I access the lessons and templates?

All lesson recordings and templates templates are available through the password-protected area of the Mpops website. Students can log in at any time to revisit previous lessons and download the resources they need while they are subscribed to the course.

  • What materials will we need?

The main medium used throughout the course is oil pastels, along with chalk pastel pencils for adding finer details.

We recommend using mixed media paper, and a full recommended materials list will be provided after enrolment.

Each lesson also includes a printable template, which you'll need to print before the lesson. For this reason, please make sure you have access to a printer that can print thicker paper before enrolling on the course.

A full recommended materials list, including all additional equipment, will be provided after enrolment.

  • Does my child need any previous art experience?

    No previous experience is needed.

This class is designed for anyone who enjoys being creative. Every artwork is taught step by step, making it suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced artists looking to relax and create beautiful artwork.

  • Do I have to attend the live lessons?

No. While many students enjoy joining us live each week, attendance isn't compulsory. Every lesson is available afterwards through the password-protected area of the website, so students can catch up whenever it suits them.

  • Do Students need to have their cameras switched on? Item

The safety and wellbeing of our students is very important to us. For safeguarding reasons, we ask that all students keep their cameras switched on during our live lessons.

If a student's camera is switched off, they will be placed back into the waiting room until they're able to rejoin with their camera on.

If your child is feeling unwell, would prefer not to be on camera that day, or is experiencing technical difficulties, we simply recommend completing the lesson later using the recording available on our password-protected website. This allows them to learn at their own pace while ensuring our live sessions remain a safe environment for everyone.

  • Are the live lessons recorded?

No. For safeguarding and privacy reasons, we do not record our live Zoom lessons.

However, students can access all of the pre-recorded lesson videos at any time through the password-protected area of the Mpops website, allowing them to catch up whenever it suits them.

  • Can my child pause or replay the lessons?

Absolutely. Many families choose to watch the lesson recordings rather than attend live. This allows students to pause the video, rewind sections, or even slow down the playback speed while they work.

Learning this way helps many students feel more relaxed and allows them to complete their artwork at a pace that suits them.

  • How can my child share their artwork?

Students are invited to upload their artwork to our private Google Classroom, where they can share their creations with their classmates throughout the year. It's a wonderful way to celebrate each other's work, gain inspiration from others, and be part of a friendly and supportive art community.

  • How do payments work?

The course is paid for by subscription over nine monthly payments, covering the entire school year. Payments are collected securely using GoCardless, with the first payment taken on 1st September.

  • Is the subscription per child or per screen?

The subscription is per screen, not per child. This means siblings can watch the lessons together on the same device under a single subscription. If children wish to access the lessons separately on different devices, a separate subscription will be required.

  • Can I leave the course during the year?

Yes. You are free to leave the course at any time by giving notice.

  • Do you have half-term holidays?

    Yes.

The course is divided into three terms, with 12 weekly lessons in each term.

We usually take a one-week break halfway through each term (after six lessons) and a two-week break at the end of each term. However, these holiday dates may occasionally be adjusted to suit the preferences of the class or the course timetable.

I think this reads naturally and reassures parents that there is a sensible schedule while still giving you the flexibility to adjust the calendar if needed.

  • How do I enrol?

Once you decide to join, you'll receive our Terms and Conditions by email. After accepting these, we'll send you a secure link to set up your GoCardless subscription
