Meet Lewis Tydeman
We’re thrilled to introduce a new member of the Mpops Art School family—Lewis Tydeman! Lewis brings a wealth of creativity, passion, and experience to the team, and we can’t wait for you to get to know him. Here’s a little insight into his artistic journey, in his own words:
Hi, my name is Lewis Tydeman, and I’m so happy to be joining Mpops Art School! Let me share a bit about my creative journey and what inspires me as an artist.
I’ve loved art and being creative for as long as I can remember. My favorite creative outlet is illustration, but I also have a deep connection to nature. I find that being in natural spaces, far from manmade environments, gives me a sense of peace and opens my mind to fresh ideas. It’s in these moments that my creativity truly flows.
Art has been part of my life since childhood. I’ve been told I loved drawing from a young age, and some of my favorite gifts were always sketch pads and pencils. I’d fill those sketchbooks quickly with all kinds of drawings. My love for art really began with watching my mum paint watercolours—I still have such strong memories of that.
In school, art was always my favourite subject. I’d focus more on the pictures I created for my stories than the actual words. My form tutor, who was also my art teacher, played a huge role in encouraging me to try new techniques, explore different mediums, and study various artists. Her passion inspired me to pursue art as a career, leading me to study art through GCSEs and A-levels.
Growing up in South London, surrounded by a vibrant art culture, also fueled my passion. With places like Camberwell College of Arts just around the corner, I was immersed in a world where creativity thrived.
In recent years, I’ve used my love of illustration to start a small greeting card and stationery business featuring my designs. It was an exciting journey—my work was sold in local shops, craft markets, and even by The National Trust! But for me, the creative process always mattered more than turning art into a business. When that process started to feel stifled, I knew it was time to rethink things.
That’s when I discovered my love for teaching. Sharing what I know with students and helping them explore new styles and artists has been so rewarding. Now, I’m excited to bring that enthusiasm to Mpops Art School and work alongside Mel. Her passion for art and teaching is truly inspiring, and I can’t wait to connect with all of you as we continue to explore the incredible world of art together.
We’re lucky to have Lewis on board and can’t wait for our students to learn from his unique perspective and experience. Stay tuned for exciting new lessons and projects led by Lewis and the Mpops team!
